How do i register to be self employed and does this get me health cover etc ? I know i could pay a lawyer or accountant but i was told you can do it yourself and i could do with saving the money.

Bob15 it really depends who you speak to at the employment office and how good your Spanish is ? You firstly need your NIE number and original documents and you will be given some forms.When you visit the offices always make sure you have ID,Bank Details and as much ducumentation as possible.

Accountancy fees are about 90 euros a month give or take. To be autonomo you have to pay 240 euros a month regardless of what you earn (unfair eh!?) and you pay accountancy on top. You have to submit invoices that include all the relevant information and you have to pay you 20 percent tax in advance every month. Get the rebate at the end of the year.

Hi Bob, forget to mention that yes, you will get health cover. Also after 5 years of contributions you'll be entitled to a Spanish pension. Which is quite substantial compared to the UK!
