Went round an aqaintance's house last night. They had a box connected to the television that had a list of films on it. You could select the film that you wanted to watch click go and it played. Had it's own remote control as well. Anyone knwo what this gismo might be? It wasn't anything to do with Sky or Canal+.

| Probably a media player. You download your films or programmes to your computer and then put it on the media plaer hard drive. It connects to the telly and allows you to watch your downloads.

Yes. Almost certainly a media player. Can get players 500 GB in size for about €100 euros now. It's like a seperate hard drive with the connections and a front end interface to use it in conjunction with a television.
The popular thing is to download torrents which are usually .avi files. You will need a torrent client such as bittorrent to download the torrent file. You then drag the finished downloads onto your media player and away you go.
I use www.uknova.com to download UK television programmes to my PC. Then watch them on my media player. I've got a 'Lacie'. You can get them from Mediamart and Carrefour.
Hope this helps.
