Madrid is well served by buses, with both state-owned and private services. The transportation section of the Comunidad de Madrid website gives details about travelling by metro, bus, suburban rail and suburban buses, including fees and passes.
EMT Urban Buses (Red)The Madrid Municipal Transport Company, called EMT (Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid) provides regular group transport services in Madrid. It is owned by the Madrid Town Council.
Information on the next bus can be obtained via text message: send a text message to the number 7998, starting with the word "espera", then add the bus stop number (which can be found on the bus shelter) and the line number of the bus. EMT will answer within a few minutes.
Suburban Buses (Green)Suburban and interurban buses are operated by a number of private companies.
Tour BusesThe Madrid Vision is a daily double-decker tour bus that goes on a panoramic tour of Madrid on one of three possible routes. Tourists can hop on and off the bus any time they wish on any of the routes, which are: Modern Madrid, Monumental Madrid and Historic Madrid. The bus has an open top deck and is provided with a low floor and a ramp for handicapped access. Tourist information is offered in eight languages. All customers receive a map with routes and discount vouchers for museums, monuments and other attractions.
Tickets can be bought online or at travel agencies, hotels, Madrid Vision information points and on the Madrid Vision buses. Long Distance TransportationSeveral Spanish companies offer long-distance transportation from and to Madrid.
Continental Auto provides a service that links the city of Madrid with the route of Henares (Torrejón de Ardoz, Alcalá de Henares and Guadalajara). It also provides long distance lines that link Madrid with other provinces such as Cantabria or the Basque Country: The buses leave from the Avenida de América transfer station (see below).
La Sepulvedana links Madrid with the mountain range to its north (Navacerrada, Guadarrama, Villalba etc.) It also has long distance lines to Segovia:
La Veloz provides transportation from Madrid to Chinchón, starting at Plaza del Conde de Casal:
Larrea links Madrid with the port of Navacerrada. Buses leaves from the Moncloa transfer station:
The Cevesa buses join Madrid with San Martín de Valdeiglesias and the Gredos Mountain range:

EurolinesEurolines is a booking and information service for long distance coach journeys across the European continent. There are departure points across Spain. Their tour buses operate in Madrid.
